Welcome Geelong Sculptors to a new and exciting year planned for you all!

Your committee has spent some time organising some fabulous Professional Development Events/Artist Presentations, our new logo and a new venue to launch a bit of a ‘Renaissance’ for our annual show at Eagles Nest Fine Art Gallery, Aireys Inlet. Keep your fingers crossed for a COVID free event, where we can showcase your wonderful work to a broader viewing audience, so please spread the word.

Lucy McEachern : Bronze

Picture
28 March 2021 1-3pm

Join Lucy at her magnificent home studio/gallery in Hesse for a unique insight into her bronze sculpture practice. Learn about the method of practice she uses to create stunning pieces, from meeting the birds to casting the piece. Lucy will also share why she has chosen to work in bronze and how she successfully turned her sculpture making into a successful career. Excitingly, we will be the first to be introduced to one of her new works. Lucy’s work can be found in a number of Galleries around Australia and she has also gain success around the world.
For further information and to book your ticket visit:

Caroline Hawkins : Ephemeral Art

Does nature inspire your art?
Ephemeral Art is all about immersing yourself in nature and using nature itself for creative expression. It's a fascinating art form to engage with and has the capacity to enhance any artists existing practice.

Spend an afternoon in the extensive Drolkar Buddhist Centre gardens; the site of Caroline Hawkins  project Natural Connections.
  • Exclusive viewing of works created for the project.
  • A presentation on the appeal of Ephemeral Art as a practice.
  • Suggestions on how to incorporate this art form into your own work.

Congratulations to Terry, Darren and Michael for an incredible effort designing, creating and racing the GSI 001 craft. Thankyou too to Caroline for a fibre art Sea Dragon figurehead!
The creativity in this craft was outstanding and created much admiration, joy and conversation amongst the crowd! Bubble machine, sea shanties and even a V8 sound effect certainly entertained and shocked the judges at the starting line.....
The GSI team were congratulated on their ingenuity with the hand operated water wheels, and certainly looked like sure winners at the start of the race. Our team was the only team to properly read the rules, and to finish in third place was truly remarkable in the ideallic settings amongst the tall ships! We were later excited to hear that the GSI 001 also WON the most creative craft award!

Well done to the passionate team, and thankyou to the sculptors who came to cheer and enjoy the festival. More images and video can be found on our facebook page.

It has become very apparant to me how important it is for groups like us to exist.
To offer the opportunity to like minded people to belong to our community of creative souls is a blessing for all involved......this was proven once again with our writer's event.
We had around 8 writers read their words inspired by our exhibition and our group!
It was a magical afternoon, and if you missed it, we have captured some of the works on our website x

The Geelong Sculptors were contacted by a very interesting woman who is "currently writing a book on relationships between older people’s participation in creative activities and their health and wellbeing. It builds on the belief that creative expression and activities are transformative and integral to the health and wellbeing of people as they age."
Elizabeth Brooke would love to interview some of our more senior members to include in her research......please see the attached letter, and you may be able to contact her or catch up with Elizabeth at our annual exhibition opening.

Picture
Thanks so much to the Geelong Sculptor members who braved the wet and wild weather on Sunday July 14th to attend our Winter social event at the Fyansford Paper Mill Arts Precinct.

Around 30 of us gathered at the Door Cafe to chat and meet one another. Some for the first time, while for others it was a wonderful opportunity to catch up x
It was heart warming to see sculptors chatting to other sculptors about their practise and other topics over coffee, wine, lunch and music.

We then explored this brilliant venue, the art studios, Papermill Gallery and more. Special thanks to our members Rose Kviz and Barry Smith who opened up their studios for us on the day.

Picture
We welcomed two new members who joined on the day! Plus the follow up social media coverage attracted another new member to sign up......Please follow Geelong Sculptors Inc on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date if social media is your kind of thing xxx
